STRUCTURAL & ORNAMENTAL PROJECT MANAGER

Competencies

  • Coordinate the day-to-day management and commercial construction fabrication activities of structural & misc. steel projects in the greater West Michigan area .

  • Understanding of the structural steel fabrication and construction industries and standard construction practices.

  • Understanding of Steel Detailing and coordination with Steel Detailers.

  • Ability to process submittals and shop drawings.

  • General understanding of AISC, OSHA, and AWS codes.

  • Communication with Clients regarding status, potential questions or issues.

  • Assures proper documentation and accounting for project RFI's, change requests, and change orders.

  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural design drawings, specifications, fabricator shop and erection drawings.

  • Resolve day-to-day issues that may arise to ensure a safe, timely, and profitable project.

  • Visit job sites as needed for field measuring, meetings and project coordination.

  • Ensure substantial completion as defined in the specifications.

  • Travel required throughout West Michigan (generally, no overnight travel needed).

What it takes

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Science, or related field, or applicable experience.

  • 5+ years relevant work experience in the construction industry related to commercial construction, steel erection and fabrication.

  • OSHA 10 or 30 a plus.

  • Experience with AutoCAD or SDS2 is a bonus.

 

Physical, Mental and Environmental Requirements:

  • Project Managers are required to visit construction sites, assess existing structures, or inspect ongoing projects. This might involve walking, climbing stairs, or navigating uneven terrain.

  • Ability to lift or carry lightweight equipment, tools, or materials.

  • Fieldwork: Conduct field investigations, which could involve physically examining structures, taking measurements, or collecting data. This requires being comfortable working outdoors and in various weather conditions.
